Battery figures are usually measured in a lab with the flash firing every thirty seconds. We wanted to know what happens on a real weekend, so in mid-October I drove camera number P-031 out to Hatta with one fully charged battery and no charger.
Day one: the dam
I shot 212 frames around the dam and the kayak jetty, mostly at f/8 and a 250th in hard sun. The top display still showed three bars at dinner.
Day two: the mountain trails
A long walk on the trails above the heritage village and back. Mild morning, hot afternoon, 248 frames, Wi-Fi on for about ten minutes to send a few to my phone. Two bars by evening.
Day three: home
The battery gave out on frame 618, on the drive back, somewhere near Al Madam. That’s about 3% over our published figure, with the Wi-Fi used sparingly.
- Heat costs a little: on afternoons above 38 °C expect about 5–10% fewer shots, as with any lithium battery. Keep the camera out of a parked car.
- Leaving Wi-Fi on all day costs about a third.
- The camera uses almost nothing when switched off: a week in a drawer cost 2%.
We publish 600 because it’s what most testers got. If you’re going away for longer than a weekend, the Field One Kit includes a second battery, and the camera charges from any USB-C phone charger in about two hours.
