Inside Field One
Eleven parts. No glue.
Scroll to take it apart. Everything is screwed together so it can be serviced for decades.
Take it apart
- Swappable battery Behind a door, not a sealed bay.
- Serviceable lens Three element groups, each one replaceable.
- Built to be opened Standard screws throughout.
What each part does
The parts that decide how your photos look, and why we chose them.
-
A 24 MP full-frame sensor
A back-illuminated 36 × 24 mm sensor with no low-pass filter. Clean files to ISO 6400, usable at 25,600, and 14 stops of dynamic range at base ISO. We chose 24 MP over more because the files stay small, the lens out-resolves it, and the pixels gather more light.
-
A 35 mm f/2 lens, designed for this sensor
Seven elements in five groups, two of them aspherical. Sharp across the frame wide open, with nine rounded aperture blades and a close focus of 70 cm. A proper hard stop at infinity, so you can find it by feel in the dark.
-
A leaf shutter you can barely hear
The shutter sits inside the lens, so there’s no curtain slapping across the sensor. Speeds from 30 seconds to 1/4000, flash sync at every speed up to 1/2000, and no rolling-shutter wobble on fast subjects.
-
A coupled optical rangefinder
A 0.72× bright-line finder with a 41 mm effective base length. Line up the double image and you’re in focus, accurate to f/2 at 70 cm. Framelines shift for parallax as you focus.
-
A battery that lasts a weekend
A 1,500 mAh removable battery behind its own door, good for about 600 shots. Charges in the camera over USB-C in two hours, or in the optional dual charger.

The leaf shutter is so quiet that people on the metro didn’t notice me at all. That changes how you photograph.
