Built along one line

Every part of Field One lines up on the lens axis. Scroll to see why.

  1. Front to back Glass, barrel, mount, body, sensor, battery, door.
  2. One axis Fewer brackets, fewer things to rattle.

Why a rangefinder

We started with the cameras we actually carried: small, quiet, and quick to set. Rangefinders were all three, so we kept the layout and rebuilt everything inside it.

The result is a camera you can leave set to f/8 and a thirtieth, drop in a pocket, and pull out in one movement. No start-up menus, no mode dial, no screen to wake.

One dial for every decision

Everything you change while shooting has a physical control. Nothing you change while shooting is in a menu.

Materials that age well

Things you touch every day should get better with use, not peel.

  1. Raw machined aluminium camera top plates in a tray on a workbench

A top plate from one block

Machined from a single block of 6061 aluminium in Sharjah, bead-blasted and anodised. The engravings are cut, not printed, so they won’t rub off.

  2. Top view of a silver and black compact camera showing its knurled dials

Knurled dials that grip, even with sandy fingers

Stainless steel dials with a fine diamond knurl. They wear to a soft shine where your fingers land.

  3. Hands fitting a silver top plate onto a camera body with a small screwdriver

    Hand-fitted, screwed together

Each camera is assembled and calibrated by one technician, who signs the card in the box.

Made in Dubai

Dubai has kept cameras working for decades: the electronics shops of Deira and Bur Dubai, repairers in back rooms near the creek, and now a new generation of makers in Al Quoz. Our workshop sits among the warehouses of Alserkal Avenue, and every Field One is built there.
