Al Wusta pipeline pump station
Three 2.5 MW drive systems for a crude oil pipeline pump station, delivered as a tested drive house and running nine days early.
The result
- pump station availability
- 99.2%
- First twelve months of operation
- less energy
- 18%
- Against throttled fixed-speed pumps on the old station
- days early
- 9
- First oil through the station
- design ambient
- 50 °C
- With full output, no derating
The challenge
A new pump station on a 300 km crude oil pipeline had to restart at full flow after any stop, in 50 °C summer heat and fine sand, five hours’ drive from the nearest town.
The operator wanted one supplier for motors, drives and the drive house, and as little electrical work on site as possible.
What we did
-
Drive train design
Three 2.5 MW 3.3 kV Ex db flameproof motors, sized for full-flow restarts and load sharing between pumps.
-
Drive house
Medium voltage drives, transformers and controls in one 18-metre steel building, cooled for 50 °C.
-
System test
Full-power test of all three drive trains in Jebel Ali, witnessed by the operator’s engineers.
-
Site and support
Commissioned in five days by our Muscat team, who now hold critical spares on site.
