Growing crystals at home: a two-week project
A slow, satisfying summer project with sugar or salt, a jar and a piece of string.
Quick science answers
What’s the safest first experiment for a six-year-old?
Red cabbage indicator. Everything is edible, the colours are dramatic, and there’s nothing hot once the water has been poured.
Do we need to buy a science kit?
No. Most of what we do at club starts in a kitchen cupboard. Goggles are worth having for anything that fizzes.
How do I answer a question I don’t know?
Say “I don’t know, let’s find out”. It’s the most scientific sentence there is.
